  1. SLIDES SHOWER INTRODUCTION
  2. The multimedia screen saver for Windows.

  5. FEATURES

  7. * Performs slide shows with background music, transitional effects.

  11. Slides Shower displays all images files in any directory you select.
  12. The software is capable of recognizing over 40 image file formats
  13. including BMP, JPEG, Kodak Photo CD, TIFF, Windows Metafile, PCX,
  14. DCX, CALS Raster, MacPaint, GEM Image, Microsoft Paint, Macintosh
  15. PICT, LEAD CMP, etc.

  17. Photo albums created by Images Control (another graphics software
  18. package written by me) can also be used in Slides Shower screen 
  19. savers. From the Windows Control panel, simply choose "Slides 
  20. Shower" as your screen saver and select your favorite album for 
  21. the slide show.

  23. You can obtain a hardcopy of any image you like during the slide
  24. show simply by pressing the "P" key.  A print preview window will
  25. appear to let you position and resize the image before printing.

  40. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

  42. Hardware Requirements:
  43.  
  44. * Windows-based PCs (386 or better).
  45. * Standard VGA (or Windows-accelerated card).
  46. * A mouse or trackball.
  47. * TWAIN-compliant scanners or digital cameras (optional).
  48. * Windows supported-printers (optional).
  49. * Sound blaster card or compatible (optional).

  51. Software Requirements:

  53. * Microsoft Windows 3.1/3.11/95/NT workstation.
  54.  
  55. Slides Shower was also tested on the following computers:
  56. 1) 100 MHz PCI Pentium-based computer with 16 MB RAM and a 1 MB DRAM PCI 
  57.    Diamond Stealth SE.
  58. 2) 150 Mhz PCI Pentium-based computer with 32 MB RAM and a 2 MB VRAM 
  59.    Diamond Stealth Video 3200 (S3-968) under the above resolutions and 
  60.    color depth modes.
  61. 3) IBM P5-133 with 32 MB RAM and a 1MB DRAM PCI Diamond Stealth (S3-764).
  62. 4) AST Bravo LC 4/33s with 8MB of RAM and a 512K ATI video card.
  63. 5) Sharp PC-9050 notebook computer with 32 MB RAM and a 2 MB VRAM PCI 
  64.    Trident (9660/9680/938X) linear accelerator.

  66. The following printers were successfully  tested:
  67. 1) HP LaserJet 4L.
  68. 2) HP LaserJet 5L.
  69. 3) Brother HL-720.
  70. 4) NEC Superscript 660plus.
  71. 5) Canon BJC-610.
  72. 6) Epson Stylus Color.
  73. 7) Epson Stylus Color Pro.

  76. OPERATION
  77. ---------
  78. Once the slide show screen saver started, you can have it interrupted by 
  79. a mouse click, a key press, or both.  This can be set under "Options" on 
  80. the menu.
  81.  
  82. During the slides show, any other keys will stop the slide show, except 
  83. these 3 keys:
  84. * Press "C" to access the configuration screen.
  85. * Press "P" to print the current image.
  86. * Press "A" to verify the version number.
  87.  
  88. If you select the "Play audio CD" box, don't forget to put an audio CD
  89. in the drive so when the screen saver activates, the CD will be played
  90. automatically.
  91.  
  92. The default time delay between slide show is 2 seconds, you can set this
  93. to a faster or longer interval by clicking "Show Interval" under "Options".
  94.  
  95. The "Display image properties" is useful for scanning through a directory
  96. and display all known images along with their properties such as file
  97. size, resolution, and color depths.  This caption can be turned off by
  98. checking off the "Display image properties" box.
  99.  
  100. You can either use the default random wipe pattern or have Slides Shower
  101. sequentially cycle through all 29 transitional effects.
  102.  
  103. Those of you purchased the Images Control suite (a photo album builder 
  104. and image processing/enhancement package), you can use the photo albums 
  105. you built for the slide show.  Be sure to select the "Images Control 
  106. photo album" in the "Image Source" section, then click on the file 
  107. dialog icon to select the album you want.
  108.  
  109. If you have problem printing in the registered version, you may want to
  110. bypass the "Colors Optimization" box in the print preview menu.
  111.  
  112. If you have problem with a disappearing mouse, press "C" to bring up the
  113. configuration menu and press CTRL+M to restore the mouse.
  114.  
  115. The password timeout varies from computer to computer, depending on the
  116. speed of the machine.  If someone interrupts the screen saver and the
  117. security option was turned on, a password window will appear and stay
  118. on for only whatever time specified in the "Password Timeout" menu and
  119. will disappear.  The faster your computer is, the faster this window
  120. will disappear, in this case, set this value to a higher value to allow 
  121. you time to enter a password before the password window disappear.

  125. If you previously set a password and the screen saver is currently
  126. password protected, you must remember the exact password to disable it.

  130. SUPPORTED IMAGE FILE FORMATS
  131. ----------------------------
  132. Slides Shower was developed using LEAD Technologies LEADTOOLS VBX 
  133. Professional.  Below is the list of image file formats which Slides 
  134. Shower supports:
  135.  
  136. LEAD.   This is the LEAD CMP compressed format for grayscale and color 
  137.     images.
  138.  
  139. JFIF.   This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with full color spacing 
  140.     (YUV 4:4:4).
  141.  
  142. LEAD1JFIF.              
  143.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  144.     spacing, to produce a smaller JFIF file.      
  145.  
  146. LEAD2JFIF.              
  147.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  148.     spacing, to produce the smallest JFIF file.
  149.  
  150. JTIF.   This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with full color spacing 
  151.     (YUV 4:4:4).

  153. LEAD1JTIF.              
  154.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  155.     spacing, to produce a smaller JTIF file.
  156.  
  157. LEAD2JTIF.              
  158.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  159.     spacing, to produce the smallest JTIF file.
  160.  
  161. TIFF.   This is a tag-based file format designed to promote universal 
  162.     interchanges of digital image data. Because TIFF files do not 
  163.     have a single way to store image data, there are many versions 
  164.     of TIFF. Slides Shower supports the most common TIFF formats.
  165.  
  166. MPT.    This is a multipage TIFF format that enables a file to contain 
  167.     more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular TIFF 
  168.     file, except for the multipage feature.
  169.  
  170. TIFF LZW.               
  171.     These files use the Tagged Image File Format with LZW compression.
  172.  
  173. TIFF CCITT.             
  174.     These are compressed TIFF files that are commonly used for FAX 
  175.     transmission and document imaging.
  176.  
  177. TIFF CCITT Group 3.     
  178.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  179.     and more compressed than TIFF CCITT.
  180.  
  181. TIFF CCITT Group 4.     
  182.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  183.     and more compressed than TIFF CCITT Group 3.
  184.  
  185. IOCA (ICA).             
  186.     This is the Image Object Content Architecture developed by IBM. 
  187.  
  188. WinFax Group 3.         
  189.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 3 support.
  190.  
  191. WinFax Group 4.         
  192.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 4 support.
  193.  
  194. FAX Group 3.            
  195.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 3 support. 
  196.  
  197. FAX Group 4.            
  198.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 4 support.
  199.  
  200. Truevision TGA (TARGA). 
  201.     This is a file format created by Truevision Inc.
  202.  
  203. PNG (Portable Network Graphics). 
  204.     This is a replacement for the GIF format. It is a full-featured 
  205.     (non-LZW) compressed format intended for widespread use without 
  206.     legal restraints.
  207.  
  208. Photoshop 3.0 (PSD). 
  209.     This is the format produced by the Adobe Photoshop graphics 
  210.     editor.
  211.  
  212. Windows Bitmap (BMP). 
  213.     This is a file format created by Microsoft. Some BMP images are 
  214.     compressed with an RLE type compression.
  215.  
  216. Windows Metafile (WMF). 
  217.     These files are not bitmap based images. A Windows metafile 
  218.     consists of a collection of device independent functions that 
  219.     represents an image. When a program loads a metafile, these 
  220.     functions are executed to obtain the image.
  221.  
  222. PCX.    This is a file format created by ZSoft. This format compresses 
  223.     its image data with the RLE type compression.
  224.  
  225. DCX.    This is a multipage PCX format that enables a file to contain 
  226.     more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular PCX 
  227.     file, except for the multipage feature.
  228.  
  229. PostScript Raster (Encapsulated PostScript). 
  230.     These files are used primarily on PostScript printers. These 
  231.     printers usually offer more variety of fonts and higher 
  232.     resolution than standard laser printers. EPS files will work on 
  233.     any PostScript compatible printer and any end user application 
  234.     that supports placement of EPS files in its work space.
  235.  
  236. OS/2 Bitmap (OS/2 BMP). 
  237.     These are files created on an OS/2 operating system.
  238.  
  239. CALS Raster. 
  240.     These are 1-bit CCITT Group 4 CALS raster files. CALS is a U.S. 
  241.     government standard.
  242.  
  243. MacPaint (MAC). 
  244.     These Macintosh Paint files are commonly used for monochrome 
  245.     clip art.
  246.  
  247. GEM Image (IMG). 
  248.     These files are native to the Graphical Environment Manager 
  249.     developed by Digital Research.
  250.  
  251. Microsoft Paint (MSP). 
  252.     These files from early versions of Windows are used for black-
  253.     and-white drawings and clip art.
  254.  
  255. WordPerfect (WPG). 
  256.     These are WordPerfect raster files. 
  257.  
  258. SUN Raster (RAS). 
  259.     These files are native to Sun UNIX platforms.
  260.  
  261. Macintosh Pict (PCT). 
  262.     These files, produced using Macintosh QuickDraw, are used in 
  263.     desktop publishing and imaging applications.
  264.  
  265. LEAD 1BIT. 
  266.     These are 1-bit LEAD compressed files.
  267.  
  268. PCD.    
  269.     These are Kodak PhotoCD files. These read-only files can 
  270.     contain multiple resolutions. You can specify which of the 
  271.     resolutions to read.
  272.  
  273. NOTE: Because of the battle between Unisys and many software 
  274. developers over the GIF format royalty fees, Slides Shower does not 
  275. support GIF. Instead, Slides Shower supports a new rising star that's 
  276. supposed to be a much better replacement for GIF called PNG (Portable 
  277. Network Graphics). CompuServe has adopted PNG and has been shifting 
  278. their support for GIF to PNG.

  298. file through internet e-mail (uuencoded or MIME-encoded).  The license 
  299. file will recognize you as a registered user and allow you full access 
  300. to all Slides Shower features.  Your permanent license file registered 
  301. in your name (or your company name) and the latest version of Slides 
  302. Shower will be in the mail the next business day.

  304. Those of you have access to CompuServe can register Slides Shower on 
  305. line and receive the registered version within 24 hours (SWREG #11126).

  307. International users may transfer $US 14 directly to my Bank of America
  308. account.  There will be an additional processing fee of $10 because
